Q: What is DFW Outdoors (DFWO)?
A: DFWO is an internet based, event oriented, membership club. We organize and host events that provide professional adults with opportunities to lead more active lifestyles. Our events are based all around the Dallas Fort Worth area. We frequently offer road trips throughout Texas and the United States and occasionally we offer more extensive international travel. The bonus is that with our growing network of sister clubs, we often cross post events, thereby giving our members more chances to travel and meet other like-minded fun seekers. We are DFW’s most active and friendliest outdoor and social club. Our calendar offers a fun and unique blend of events from which our members can pick and choose to attend. DFWO allows you to have fun and meet new people in a relaxed, no-pressure environment!
Q: What is DFWO not?
A: DFWO not a dating or singles club. Married couples are welcome and encouraged to join! We do not have any religious or political affiliations. We strive to make all people feel welcome. DFWO is a business that provides a service paid for with members' dues.
Q: How do I know that DFWO is not some random club that just started?
A: We hosted our first event on January 18, 2002. Since then we have hosted hundreds of events in the years of our existence. We plan on being here a very, very long time.
Q: What kind of people join DFWO?
A: Wow, that is a tough question because we don’t have an “average” member. Our members range in age from 25 all the way to 60 years old. Some members truly love doing outdoor activities, other just like to attend the social events. Some members have lived all their life in Texas. Others may be from foreign countries and have lived all over the world. Many members are new to the area and are looking for ways to meet fun, new people outside of their work environment. Some members might be recently single or divorced and looking to start a new life. Some members got tired of the bar scene and decided they wanted to experience new things in life. Our members might be doctors, lawyers, teachers, IT engineers, retired, or self employed. Our members come from all walks of life. Some members lead very active lifestyles while others might be looking to get back into shape. Our activities cover a broad range of abilities, from really easy to difficult. We only have one prerequisite to joining DFWO --- that you be open to meeting all kinds of new people of all different ages. You many not become “best friends” with ever single member, but in the long run we are all here for one major thing, TO HAVE FUN!
Q: What are the benefits of joining DFWO?
A: DFWO provides its members with the opportunity to explore all of the DFW area. Members will be able to try things that they have never done before and discover places they never knew existed. And, because of our “connections”, we often get special discounts on activities or get to particpate in events generally not available to the public. The events are all planned out and all you have to do is show up. The event page gives members all the information they need to know - location, directions, times, and other participating members. The biggest benefit - it's always so much more fun doing activities as a group.
Q: Is my credit card information secure?
A: Absolutely. DFWO uses VeriSign to process its online transactions. VeriSign protects member’s credit card and other confidential information with industry-leading SSL encryption. In addition, member’s credit card number and information is never made available, not even to the owner of the club.
Q: Is my member data secure?
A: Yes. We understand the need for privacy. DFWO will never divulge information about its members to anyone. Internally we have a profile section where members can post information about themselves. The system allows members to display only the information they wish other members to see.
Q: How much are the membership dues?
A: Membership dues begin at $25 and vary depending on the membership cycle selected (Monthly, Quarterly, Semi-Annual, or Annual). Dues are not pro-rated and membership starts the day you sign up. The registration process takes about 5 minutes and there is no waiting period. Dues are automatically charged to your credit card on the cyclical date from which you selected. Married couples can receive a 2 for 1 membership so that they can participate together or individually.
Q: Can I get a refund on my membership dues?
A: DFWO does not refund membership dues once they have been paid.
Q: How can I cancel my membership?
A: All membership transactions, except for the annual membership, are automatically charged to your credit card on your anniversary date according to the membership plan you selected. There is no pro-rating. Membership continues until cancelled by the member. Because there are no contracts, to cancel your membership all you have to do is send an email.
Q: Can I bring pets to an event?
A: DFWO is a very dog friendly club. In general, most outdoor activities are dog friendly. The event description will state whether or not pets are welcome.
Q: What do member dues cover?
A: DFWO is a business. Member dues help to cover all the administrative costs associated with planning and executing events as well as the general maintenance of the website. Membership gets you complete access to the DFWO interactive website as well as the websites of our sister clubs. Only members have the ability to see the full details for every event, like times, places, maps, directions, and contact information. Most DFWO events are for members and their guests only.
Q: Are DFWO events free?
A: It depends on the event. Some events may require the purchase of tickets or cause you to incur some travel costs. The event details will clearly state if it is free, and if not, what the anticipated costs will be. We always strive to get group discounts for our members as well as finding those unique events that may not always be available to the general public.
Q: Can members bring a guest to a DFWO event?
A: Generally yes unless otherwise noted in the event description. We do enforce a couple of guidelines in the interest of fairness to all paying members. If space is limited, members will take priority over guests. Members bringing guests to a DFWO event are responsible for that guest's behavior.
Q: What if I am shy around strangers?
A: You can’t imagine how many times we have heard this. If you are looking at our website you have already taken the first step. You obviously have an interest in getting out to meet new people and try new things. Your next step is to attend an event. You will see that we are a very friendly group. You will get out DFWO what you put into it. If you're willing to reach out halfway and attend some events, you'll end up making some great friends. Don’t be one of those people who wait eight months to finally try out their first event and then say “I should have done this a long time ago!”
Q: Who organizes and hosts DFWO events?
A: DFWO has a wonderful team of event leaders who organize and host their own events. These event leaders are as unique and diverse as the club’s members. It’s these qualities that allow us to have such a fun and mixed variety of events on our calendar.
